Every so often a story comes to me as I’m working with a particular hide; this moonlight coyote wanted to embody the story of How Coyote Imitated Snake, which you can read in full here.

When I got this hide, which was dyed to create this unique color, she had no legs and feet, and her face was badly damaged and torn. I repaired it to the best of my ability and added painted details. I then adorned the hide with strips of colorful secondhand fabric from old torn scarves, as well as dried palm leaves from a secondhand costume skirt. These are referred to in the story itself, so be sure to read it to see what they’re for! She measures 52″ long from tip to tip.
